Agrum donates US$10k towards Heroes and Defence Forces Day commemorations

Zimbabwe will commemorate Heroes Day on Monday and Defence Forces Day on Tuesday August 10 honouring the men and women who fought for the country’s independence as well as the members of the security services who continue to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty. The donation reflects the private sector’s commitment to supporting national programmes that preserve Zimbabwe’s liberation history and recognise the sacrifices of both the fallen and living heroes. The country’s independence created opportunities for black Zimbabweans to participate meaningfully in the economy, with many black-owned businesses, including Agrum,emerging and growing in an environment made possible by the sacrifices of the liberation struggle.

The contribution also recognises the continued service of members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, whose role in protecting the nation’s peace, security and territorial integrity remains vital to national development. Handing over the donation, Agrum Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Evance Kamombo said the company was honoured to play its part in ensuring successful national commemorations while supporting the development agenda being pursued by the Second Republic under President Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. “As Agrum, we believe that the freedoms and opportunities enjoyed by indigenous Zimbabweans today were secured through the selfless sacrifices of our liberation heroes and heroines.

This contribution is our humble way of honouring both the fallen and the living heroes, while supporting the tremendous work being undertaken by the Second Republic under the leadership of His Excellency President Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. We are proud to join hands with the organising committee to ensure these national commemorations are held successfully and with the dignity they deserve,” said Kamombo. Receiving the donation on behalf of the Office of the President and Cabinet, Accountant, Mrs Happiness Guriremo expressed profound appreciation to Agrum and its CEO Evance Kamombo, for the timely contribution.

She said the donation demonstrated true patriotism and corporate citizenship at a time when the nation was preparing to celebrate one of its most important national occasions. “We are truly humbled by this generous gesture from Agrum and its CEO Mr Kamombo. We are short of words because this contribution reflects genuine love for our country and respect for those who sacrificed everything for our freedom.

Such support inspires the organising committee and demonstrates that the private sector remains an important partner in preserving our national heritage,” she said. An official who attented the handover paid tribute to President Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa for his continued commitment to preserving Zimbabwe’s liberation legacy and strengthening national unity through the annual Heroes and Defence Forces commemorations. She commended Mr Kamombo for leading by example and urged other companies to emulate Agrum’s commitment to national causes.

We equally commend Mr Evance Kamombo and the Agrum family for demonstrating that patriotic corporate leadership goes beyond business and extends to supporting national development and remembering those whose sacrifices gave us the Zimbabwe we proudly call home,” she added. Zimbabwe attained its independence on 18 April 1980 after a protracted liberation struggle in which thousands of men and women sacrificed their lives to end colonial rule and secure majority governance. The victory opened doors for black Zimbabweans to participate fully in commerce, industry, mining and agriculture, creating opportunities for black-owned enterprises to flourish.
