Springbok prop Zach Porthen is ready to step upagainst Argentina as he continues to find his feet in Test rugby. WhenZach Porthen made his Springbok debut against Japan last November, he knew the leap from junior rugby to the international arena would be steep. Nine months later, the 21-year-old tighthead prop believes he is beginning to find his feet in Test rugby as he prepares to earn his sixth cap againstArgentina in Buenos Aireson Saturday.

Porthen says his biggest growth has come in the set pieces, although he insists there is still plenty of work to do. “Playing junior rugby is one thing, but it is obviously a massive step up to international rugby, so you are always trying to better every aspect of your game,” he said. “Before every training session I focus on one or two things that I want to improve.

I try to be consistent with getting better at every single training session. That’s how I go about it.” Against the Pumas, one of world rugby’s most formidable scrummaging teams, Porthen knows he will face another stern examination.
