Maskandi artist Inkosi Yamagcokama dies in crash

The accident happened at the traffic lights opposite Melomed Hospital, where the artist sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said emergency teams, including the Road Traffic Inspectorate, uMhlathuze Traffic, SAPS and other rescue services, responded to the crash. Three occupants were taken to hospital, with one later succumbing to their injuries.

Two other victims remain in hospital and are wished a speedy recovery. The SAPS accident unit is now investigating the cause of the crash. Duma expressed condolences to Yamagcokama’s family and the wider Maskandi community, describing the artist as an invaluable asset to the nation who helped put Umsinga on the map. He said Yamagcokama’s legacy would continue to inspire aspiring Maskandi artists and contribute to the growth of the genre.
