KZN disaster teams on high alert as severe cold front approaches

KwaZulu-Natal disaster management teams have been placed on high alert as a severe weather system is expected to bringheavy snow, freezing temperatures and strong windsacross large parts of the province. COGTA MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi said the advisory is valid from midnight on Sunday, August 10, until 11.59 pm on Monday. Temperatures are expected to drop below10°C, while strong winds could reach80km/h.

Disruptive snowfall is expected over western parts of the province, with icy roads and possible mountain pass closures. The N3 between Van Reenen and Howick is among the major routes at risk. Residents in affected municipalities have been urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather. Emergency operations centres will monitor conditions throughout the advisory period, with residents urged to contact their local municipality’s emergency or disaster management centre if assistance is needed.
