According to INCM, the geospatial platform, called the “National Broadband and Coverage Planning Portal”, was created to provide geospatial information on the coverage and availability of broadband services throughout the country. “The platform was designed to support modern regulation, making it possible to identify areas with and without coverage of broadband data and Internet services, strengthen transparency, and guide public policies and investment towards the expansion of telecommunications networks and universal access,” the statement said. “With this technological platform, we are inaugurating a new approach to understanding, monitoring and planning connectivity in Mozambique, based on data, evidence and georeferenced information, capable of supporting more informed decisions and more effective public policies,” he said.

Through an interactive map and analysis tools, portal users can consult mobile network coverage by operator and technology (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G), geographical and demographic information, as well as statistical indicators on territorial and population coverage and the country’s main infrastructure. For Xerinda, the platform creates a common information base that will allow different stakeholders in the sector to work from the same information, strengthening transparency and coordination of efforts to expand connectivity. The official also stressed that the new platform strengthens the relationship between the regulator and consumers, as “any user will be able to report coverage problems directly to INCM”, contributing to a more accurate understanding of conditions on the ground and strengthening citizens’ more active participation in the continuous improvement of telecommunications services.

“More than a technological solution, this innovation is a development tool. Its greatest value will be measured by its ability to improve citizens’ lives, strengthen the communications market and support the economic and social development of our country,” he said. The portal is available through INCM’s National Broadband and Coverage Planning Portalhttps://www.incm.gov.mz/mapa-nacional-de-banda-larga-movel/
