Mozambique: CTA delegation visits Halliburton in Houston to explore local supplier opportunities

The objective of the visit was to learn about the company’s business model, its global operations and, above all, the mechanisms for integrating Mozambican companies into its supply chain. According to Halliburton, the objective is to transform local participation into skills development, employment and long-term opportunities in the countries where it operates, including Mozambique through the Rovuma LNG project. The company presented the main criteria required for companies seeking to join its supply chain, highlighting high standards in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), quality management systems, proven operational capacity, legal and tax compliance, adequate facilities, certified equipment and qualified human resources.

The delegation also learned about the supplier qualification process, which begins with companies expressing their interest, followed by coordination with the procurement team, technical and documentary assessments, pre-qualification and, subsequently, inclusion in the database of eligible suppliers for future contracting opportunities. According to Halliburton, this model allows for greater participation by local companies, strengthens local content and establishes sustainable business partnerships. For the CTA, the visit represented an opportunity to bring Mozambican companies closer to one of the world’s largest oil and gas services providers and to understand, in practice, the international standards required to accelerate SME participation in Cabo Delgado projects, enabling them to access opportunities across the oil and gas sector’s value chain with greater information and transparency.

Mozambique’s largest Business Confederation stressed the need to continue investing in strengthening the capacity of national companies, certification, improving management systems and compliance with international standards. These factors are essential for an increasing number of Mozambican companies to benefit from the opportunities created by major energy projects in the country and to consolidate a competitive and sustainable role in the industry.
