A Catholic clergy in Mpulungu District has called on Catholic faithfuls to continue conducting their election campaigns with empathy and compassion. Henry Chisoka has emphasised the importance of understanding and kindness in community outreach efforts, urging believers to prioritize empathy over mere rhetoric. Speaking during his farewell message to the Christians at Stella Maris Parish during the Sunday service yesterday, Chisoka highlighted that genuine compassion can foster unity and positive change within society, which aligns with the core teachings of the Catholic Church.
He encouraged faithfuls to reflect on Christ’s love in their actions, especially during the election period. “Social development, charity work, and politics should not be a battleground of hatred and division, but a platform for unity and understanding among all citizens,” he said. “Political campaigns often become heated and divisive, which usually lead to unnecessary conflict and misunderstandings but as faithfuls we must strive to resist the temptation to engage in inflammatory rhetoric and instead focus on listening to different perspectives with an open heart,” he added.
He urged Catholics to pray for wisdom and patience as they navigate the political landscape noting that a prayerful approach can help voters discern their choices wisely and act with integrity. He reminded the faithful that their conduct during campaigns reflects their faith and can influence others positively, adding that faith and politics can coexist harmoniously when guided by compassion and empathy. Brother Chisoka has also called on political leaders to run their campaigns with honesty, humility, and respect for their opponents.
