Parents hail new classroom construction in Mbala

Parents in Mwambala area in Mbala District in Northern Province, have commended Government for constructing a new classroom block at Mwambala Primary School. The construction of a classroom block follows the collapse of the school’s previous classroom structure during the last rainy season, prompting the Government to construct a new classroom block.Speaking on behalf of the parents, Parents Committee Chairperson, Alick Chazya has also thanked the Government for providing 120 desks to Mwambala School, saying the gesture has greatly improved the learning environment.Mr, Chazya has since appealed to the Government to deploy more teachers at the school.He explained that the school has been experiencing a shortage of teaching staff following the transfer of three teachers since last year and during the first term of this year, without any replacements.“The school currently has only four teachers, down from seven, making it difficult to effectively manage teaching and learning, we appeal to the government to consider sending more teachers to the school,” he said.Meanwhile, Mwambala Primary School Headteacher, Ivor Sikazwe said the School offers classes from Grade One to Grade Seven and has a total enrolment of 316 pupils.Mr Sikazwe notes that although some schools operate with as few as three teachers, the staffing levels at Mwambala Primary School remain inadequate considering its enrolment.He expressed hope that the school would benefit from the Government’s upcoming teacher recruitment exercise.
