The energy projects under development in the Rovuma Basin, Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, represent an estimated investment of more than 50 billion US dollars. The figures were shared today in Maputo by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, during the opening of the Mozambique CEO Summit. According to the Head of State, the Coral Sul FLNG and Coral Norte projects, led by Italian energy company ENI, Mozambique LNG, developed by TotalEnergies, and Rovuma LNG, led by ExxonMobil, reinforce international confidence in Mozambique’s energy potential and open a new chapter for the country’s economic development.
For Daniel Chapo, these investments must generate impacts that extend far beyond the export of liquefied natural gas. “The Government’s goal is to leverage these major projects as a platform to accelerate industrialization, increase national productive capacity, create skilled jobs, and strengthen the Mozambican business ecosystem,” he stated. In his vision, the country’s energy potential can position Mozambique as a major regional energy production and distribution hub.
Concurrently, he noted that energy availability can create the necessary conditions to attract investments in digital infrastructure, including data processing centers and artificial intelligence technologies, thereby diversifying the national economic base. He highlighted the approval of the Local Content Law as a fundamental instrument to ensure that a significant share of economic benefits remains in the country. “The Government’s strategy also involves the responsible use of energy resources, energy matrix diversification, the expansion of renewable energy, and increasing energy access across the entire national territory,” he said.
