ENI reaffirms commitment to local content in Mozambique

Italian petrochemical company ENI reaffirms its commitment to the development of local content in Mozambique, arguing that ongoing investments in Cabo Delgado province, northern region, must generate concrete benefits for national companies, create skilled jobs, and strengthen the Mozambican economy. The position was presented today in Maputo by ENI’s Managing Director in Mozambique, Marica Calabrese, during the Mozambique CEO Summit, an event that brought together numerous domestic and foreign CEOs. “The success of ENI’s operations should not be evaluated solely by operational results or liquefied natural gas production volumes,” she stated.

For the oil company, true success is measured by the development that projects leave behind in the country, through local capacity building and the strengthening of the economy. The director explained that ENI’s strategy rests on three pillars: defining common goals between Government, communities, and the private sector; shared responsibility among all stakeholders; and ongoing cooperation to achieve sustainable development. Within this framework, local content continues to occupy a central position in the company’s strategy.

ENI has been investing in the training of its workforce, upskilling Mozambican technicians, and strengthening the national supply chain, enabling growing participation of local companies in Rovuma Basin gas projects. “The company regularly organizes meetings with national suppliers, business fairs, and procurement opportunity presentations. To date, over 400 Mozambican companies have participated in these initiatives, designed to facilitate market access to the oil and gas industry,” she highlighted.

The director also emphasized the work carried out with international partners to increase local content incorporation. As an example, she announced that a significant portion of component construction associated with the Coral Norte project will be performed in Pemba, under an agreement with an international contractor. “Around half of the value of this component will be executed locally, a decision that results from a strategic choice by the company rather than merely a legal obligation,” she stressed.
