Mozambique: Norwegian research vessel begins 42-day scientific survey off Mozambique’s coast

The vessel will carry out a 42-day offshore expedition to assess the sustainability and stocks of fishery resources, as well as marine ecosystems, along Mozambique’s coastline. The delegation was received by the vessel’s captain, Tommy Seeffensen, who guided a tour of the ship’s compartments. Funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with authorisation from the Mozambican government, the mission has 18 scientists on board.

The expedition will be accompanied by INAMAR officials to ensure compliance with current maritime legislation and monitor sustainable management efforts related to the blue economy. In this context, Maputo National Park said that visitors, local communities, fishermen and other users of the beach and coastal areas are advised that, should they come across the vessel, there is no reason for alarm or concern, as its presence is related to scientific research activities.
