Mozambique seeks to become Southern Africa AI hub, says minister

Muchanga made the remarks while participating in the panel discussion “Wiring the Future: Building Africa’s Digital Backbone”, held as part of the Infra for Africa Forum 2026 and the Africa50 General Shareholders’ Meeting. He also reiterated that responsibility for investing in infrastructure lies with the private sector, while the government’s role is to create policies and regulations that attract and facilitate such investment. Muchanga called for a collective commitment to accelerate access to electricity and connectivity across Africa, noting that around 600 million Africans still live without access to electricity.

The event, held from 5 to 6 August under the theme “A Decade of Economic Impact: From Ambition to Execution”, took place at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It brought together Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, heads of state, ministers, sovereign wealth funds, institutional investors, development finance institutions and private sector leaders from across the continent.
