A severe animal hoarding case in North West has resulted in the surrender of 15 animals, with the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) warning that overcrowded and unsanitary living conditions can have devastating consequences for animal welfare. The case was uncovered in Lichtenburg after concerns were raised about the conditions in which animals were being kept at a private residence. Senior Inspector Sparky Moseki of the NSPCA’s Special Projects Unit described it as “one of the worst cases of hoarding I’ve seen”.
According to the NSPCA, when Moseki arrived at the property, she was immediately struck by the overpowering smell and the condition of the house. “The floors of the house were littered with animal faeces and debris, and it was clear from the amount of waste that the neglect was not new,” the organisation said. Moseki found 15 dogs and nine cats living inside the cluttered home.

If you suspect neglect, report it. We can only help if we know there is a problem. 🐾#NSPCA#AnimalWelfare#AnimalHoarding#ReportCruelty#SouthAfrica The NSPCA said the animals had little room to move and were forced to rest on damp, soiled materials.
Their drinking water was reportedly contaminated with algae. “The animals showed signs of anxiety, stress, and physical discomfort. Conditions like this can have a serious impact on an animal’s welfare,” the NSPCA said.
