Cycle4Life thrives under Pelaelo leadership

Following a successful tenure at the helm of Cycle4Life cycling club, Modiegi Pelaelo is expected to hand the baton to her successor at the Annual General Meeting planned soon. Under her leadership since 2023, the club’s brand strengthened by building meaningful partnerships and expanding through community outreach initiatives, while growing the club’s membership cementing its reputation as a mountain bike (MTB) club. With a decline on MTB races locally due to lack of sponsorship, Pelaelo used her strategic leadership to look beyond the horizon by ensuring C4L participate in regional competitions, where MTB thrived.

“Our participation internationally has demonstrated that a Botswana cycling club can compete on some of the toughest endurance stages in the world. It has inspired new riders to join the sport, and that dedication, discipline and teamwork can produce world-class performances. Every finish line crossed by a C4L rider became an opportunity to showcase the club, our country and the spirit that defines who we are,” Pelaelo said.

C4L has participated and competed in endurance races such as Namib Desert Dash, The Munga, Race to the Sun, Trans Bavarian among others. Consistently and constantly being part of such race stakes not only a ready mind and body, but support. Therefore, Pelaelo said C4L philosophy had always been that when one rider succeeds, the entire club succeeds.

She said they thrived to create a supportive environment through mentorship, sharing of knowledge and fundraising where possible as well as celebrate achievements and ensure that every rider is aware that they had full backing of the club. “In every ride they participate in outside the country, the club stands by them because they carry not only the C4L colours but also the Botswana flag, so we encourage our riders to dream bigger,” she said. Big on charity work, Pelaelo has merged her passion for cycling with community impact.

Under her leadership, the club formed a partnership with Baitshepi Social Club, assisting various schools with school necessities such as books, shoes and uniform. “We also managed to purchase two bicycles for the top male and female learners at Matsheng Junior Secondary School in Sojwe and now those two learners are heading to tertiary after having performed exceptionally well,” Pelaelo said.
