Some countries have moved far already, and the people of Africa should not be left behind, because if they are, they will get the worst side of AI. We need to take the lead because transformation is being led by people from outside this continent, and we have been short-changed,” PAP President, Chief Fortune Charumbira said.Focusing on emerging technologies and building capacity, AI and Big Data experts are laying brick upon brick for African legislators in Midrand.“AI is the new buzzword in town.
We know now that AI is part of the emerging technologies that are shaping the 4th Industrial Revolution, and we believe that putting in place relevant regulations is critical because there are concerns about whether AI is a force for good or bad. African legislators must be at the forefront of shaping regulations which are enabling in terms of creativity and innovation,” Director African Population and Health Research Centre, Dr Anthony Mveyange noted.“We are well-positioned to partner with PAP. It is timely, as you can imagine, there are six pillars for AI to succeed in Africa.
We need the data, the people, the infrastructure, the use cases, governance, and the investments,” Research Scientist, Dr Agnes Kiragga added.The die is cast, the coast is clear, and there is no other way except for the Continent to move with the times.
