Vice President Mutale Nalumango has commissioned the 13 kilometres Mukupa-Katandula Grid Extension Project which has been constructed by the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) at over K6.8 million in Mukupa-Katandula chiefdom of Kaputa District of Northern Province. Ms Nalumango stated that the rural electrification is one of the key pillars in the national development agenda hence government is constructing electricity infrastructures in rural areas to give citizen access to electricity. She stated that the rural electrification program has seen local business grow with confidence that comes with reliable electricity.
Ms Nalumango urged people of Mukupa-Katandula chiefdom to take full use of the opportunities that government has taken to them and ensure their homes are connected. She said with the coming of electricity in the area, government expected to see better service delivery to the people from public institution which will create great economic activities. The Vice President said the Mukupa-Katandula Grid Extension Project has answered the electricity need that has existed for many years.
She also appealed to the community to take care of the infrastructure which government through the REA has constructed at a huge cost so that it can save its purpose effectively. And Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary Beauty Undi-Phiri who was represented by Northern Province Assistance Secretary Jordan Mwenya thanked government for constructing and commissioning the project which she said demonstrates governments commitment to ensuring that no part of the country is left behind. Ms Undi-Phiri added that the electricity which has been connected in Mukupa-Katandula is not merely a utility but as a powerful enabler of opportunities.

Ms Undi-Phiri stated that the commissioning of the Mukupa-Katandula Grid Extension Project by the Vice President is a great encouragement to the people of Kaputa district as it reflected governments resolve to bring development closer to the people and ensure equitable access to essential services across the country. REA Board Chairperson Charles Mboma noted that communities evolve faster when they are connected to electricity.
