President Hichilema pledges more development for Milenge.

President Hakainde Hichilema has assured the people of Milenge District that Government will continue delivering development to the area if re-elected for a second term. Speaking during a community engagement meeting in Milenge, President Hichilema said Government will prioritise the improvement of road infrastructure in the district, including the Kasanka-Milenge Road, Mwang’uni-Milambo Road and feeder roads connecting communities from Chief Sokontwe’s Palace. “We will continue working on the roads in Milenge.

We will look at the Kasanka-Milenge Road, the Mansa-Milambo Road and the feeder roads from Chief Sokontwe’s Palace so that our people can move easily and participate in economic activities,” President Hichilema said. He said improved road infrastructure will enhance connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods and open up more opportunities for communities in the district. The President also pledged to work on the Kapalala Pontoon, saying the intervention would provide a shorter route between Milenge and Ndola.

“We will work on the Kapalala Pontoon because we want to shorten the distance between Milenge and Ndola. Our people should not continue travelling long distances when there is an opportunity to create a shorter and more efficient route,” he said. The president further said Government will also prioritise the improvement of water schemes in the district to ensure that communities have access to reliable water supplies.

“We do not want to see our women walking long distances looking for water. We will work on the water schemes because water is a basic need and our people must have access to it closer to their homes,” President Hichilema said. Meanwhile, President Hichilema has pledged to improve the Kampala rural Health centre and ensure that it has water and a maternity annex.

He said improving health infrastructure will strengthen access to quality healthcare services and ensure that women in the area receive maternal healthcare closer to their communities. “We will work on the Kampala Health Facility and make sure that there is a maternity annex because our mothers should not travel long distances to access maternity services,” he said. President Hichilema further announced that all volunteer teachers and nurses in Milenge have been employed, recognising their contribution to the provision of essential services in the district.
