Two pedestrians killed while crossing N1

Two pedestrians were killed after being struck by a vehicle and a truck while attempting to cross the N1 near the Ferreira turn-off, south of Bloemfontein, on Sunday evening. According to police, the victims, a 46-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man, were reportedly trying to reach a petrol station while waiting for transport to Edenburg when the crash happened just after 6.30 pm. Emergency medical services declared both dead at the scene.

The drivers of the two vehicles sustained minor injuries. The N1 was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the crash. Police have opened a case of culpable homicide at Park Road Police Station. No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
