TWO people were killed while two others were injured in a road traffic accident along the Chivhu–Nyazura Road in Buhera on Saturday. National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the accident and said investigations were underway. “We confirm a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 72-kilometre peg along the Chivhu–Nyazura Road at around 1835 hours on 2 May.
Two people died while two others were injured in the collision involving a Mitsubishi Canter and an Iveco lowbed truck,” said Comm Nyathi. He said Vergas Mutabwani (24) of Northwood, Chivhu, was driving a white Mitsubishi Canter while Anthony Guyo (48), of Taruwinga Village under Chief Chimombe, was driving the Iveco lowbed truck.Comm Nyathi said preliminary investigations indicate that Mutabwani was travelling from Chivhu towards Murambinda, carrying 15 passengers, when the accident occurred. “It is alleged that the Canter was travelling along the Chivhu–Nyazura Road with 15 passengers on board when it approached the 72-kilometre peg near Mapika Curve, close to Muzadzi Business Centre in Buhera,” he said.
Tthe Iveco lowbed truck was partially obstructing the left lane of the road, after experiencing a tyre puncture, on its trailer. He said the obstruction created a dangerous situation for approaching motorists. “It is alleged that the Canter driver failed to control his vehicle and collided with the stationary truck.

Speeding is believed to have contributed to the accident,” he said. One passenger died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries upon arrival at Murambinda Hospital.The deceased have been identified as Paul Musariri of Chivi Village in Buhera and Pomerai (44) of Chivi. One of the injured, was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital while the other one is at Murambinda Hospital.
“Drivers are reminded to always observe due care and place adequate warning signs in the event of a breakdown. Failure to do so puts other road users at serious risk,” said Comm Nyathi.
