What began a few seasons ago as a bold development initiative by KZN Inland Cricket and the Tuskers management has now firmly established itself as a meaningful fixture on the regional cricket calendar. When the Tuskers Premier League (TPL) was officially launched, its primary objective was simple but significant — to create a competitive platform for junior and development players to showcase their talent, while also strengthening the winter cricket programme for local clubs and supporters. That vision has since been realised, with the Oval-based governing body and the Tuskers confirming the successful completion of another vibrant edition of the tournament.
Over four weeks, the competition produced consistent quality cricket, strong attendance figures, and a welcome spotlight on the region’s emerging talent. KZN Inland Cricket CEO Jason Sathiaseelan said the growth of the TPL since its inception has exceeded expectations. “It was a fantastic tournament that saw us witness talent across the various junior age groups.
We were treated to some breathtaking cricket,” Sathiaseelan said. “It was great to see so many parents and supporters coming out and enjoying winter cricket. The games were well attended and always produced exciting, competitive cricket.” Sathiaseelan noted that the competition has steadily expanded since its launch, with increased club participation and growing interest suggesting an even stronger future for the event.

He added that the TPL plays a critical role in the province’s cricket development pipeline. “The more cricket youngsters play, the better they become. It provides an important opportunity for quality cricket in the winter months and allows us another platform to identify talent in the region,” he said.
He also paid tribute to the tournament’s partners and sponsors for their contribution to its success. “We are grateful to Sappi, Cell C and Old Mutual, who have played a major role in amplifying this tournament through their partnerships. “We would not have been able to hand out more than 300 prizes had it not been for their support.”
