Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe holds road safety quiz competition in schools

Freeman RazembaSenior ReporterThe Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) is hosting quiz competitions in different provinces as part of the build-up to the inaugural 2025 National Schools Road Safety Quiz (NAROSAQ), aimed at empowering the youths with road safety knowledge and making the roads safe for all.This initiative is meant to enhance awareness and knowledge on road safety among school children.TSCZ Harare regional manager, Mr Claudius Muzuva, said this was an ongoing programme and that quiz competitions have been held in several other provinces since Monday.“Our main aim is to make sure that we conscientise our children on road safety,” Mr Muzuva said.“It is merely an awareness, although we will be giving prizes to the children and the winning schools, but that’s not the major aim.“The major aim is to focus on road safety.

We want our children to understand the safety issues.”Mr Muzuva said school children were the most vulnerable people in society and that’s why they had decided to embark on such an educational initiative.The TSCZ has also been collaborating with various organisations such as the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Vehicle Inspection Department, and transport operators for road safety awareness campaigns.These campaigns involve public awareness efforts and strategic interventions to curb accidents and fatalities.

TSCZ also conducts defensive driver training and supervises driving schools.Last month, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, appealed to Parliament for support in a bid to transform the TSCZ into an agency with enforcement powers for traffic offences.Minister Mhona said this in the National Assembly while responding to questions from legislators.Presently, the TSCZ is primarily responsible for raising road safety awareness through persuasion, but as an agency, it will also have added roles to enforce regulations and issue tickets for traffic offences and coordinate road safety efforts.Leave a ReplyCancel reply
