A bright and resilient 14-year-old girl who has spent much of her life overcoming medical challenges is now facing another difficult battle, one that her family hopes the community can help her win. Kauthar Amod, described by her loved ones as bubbly, caring and full of life, urgently needs corrective surgery for pectus excavatum. This condition affects the chest wall and can impact breathing, heart function, posture and overall quality of life.

The teenager also lives with scoliosis, a painful curvature of the spine that requires ongoing treatment and physical therapy. Her mother, Zakiya Amod, who created a Back-a-Buddy campaign, said Kauthar has shown remarkable strength throughout her life despite facing health challenges from an early age. “From the time she was very young, Kauthar has had to face challenges that most children never have to think about,” said Amod.

Yet she continues to meet every day with courage, warmth and a smile. Kauthar was just two years old when she began experiencing petit-mal seizures and was later diagnosed with Childhood Absence Epilepsy at the age of three. Despite the diagnosis and years of medical treatment, her family said she has remained positive and determined. Now, however, the cost of further treatment has placed a significant financial strain on the family.
