Stolen Land Cruiser found in Limpopo River after farm worker carjacking and kidnapping

Limpopo police are investigating a carjacking and kidnapping after a stolen Toyota Land Cruiser was recovered abandoned in the Limpopo River following an armed attack on a farm in Tshamutumbu. Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for four armed suspects who allegedly kidnapped a farm worker during a carjacking in Tshamutumbu before abandoning his stolen vehicle in the Limpopo River. The incident occurred at a farm in the Vhembe District on Saturday morning, prompting police to open investigations into charges of carjacking and kidnapping.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the victim was working on the farm when he was confronted by four unidentified suspects armed with a firearm and a knife. “It is alleged that at about 11.30am, the victim was busy at the farm when he was approached by four unknown suspects armed with a firearm and a knife,” Ledwaba said. The suspects allegedly demanded the victim’s vehicle before forcing him into the loading area of the vehicle and covering his face.

“The suspects reportedly demanded the victim’s vehicle. They then forced him into the loading area of the vehicle and covered his face before driving away with him,” Ledwaba said. The victim was later released at another farm near the Limpopo River, while the suspects continued fleeing in his vehicle.

Police later recovered the stolen white Toyota Land Cruiser, valued at approximately R700,000, abandoned in the middle of the Limpopo River. However, officers discovered that parts of the vehicle had been stripped.

“The vehicle was later recovered abandoned in the middle of the Limpopo River. The battery and spare wheel were found to be missing,” Ledwaba said.
