A pregnant woman is fighting for her life after being shot during a violent late-night incident at Port Edward Main Beach. According to KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha, paramedics responded to reports of a shooting at the beach parking area at around 10:30 pm. On arrival, emergency teams were met with what Botha described as a chaotic and distressing scene.
The victim, a woman in her early 30s who is four months pregnant, had sustained a gunshot wound following an alleged dispute that unfolded inside a vehicle. “Preliminary reports suggest that as the victim attempted to exit the car, she was shot from behind,” said Botha. The bullet caused severe internal injuries, entering through her back and exiting through her abdomen.
Members of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Station 32 and police were first on the scene, providing initial medical care before paramedics took over. KwaZulu Private Ambulance teams initiated advanced life support interventions in an effort to stabilise the woman. “Due to the severity of the abdominal trauma and the high-risk nature of her pregnancy, the patient was stabilised under intensive care conditions before being transported to a specialised medical facility,” Botha said. The area was cordoned off for several hours as police forensic teams processed the scene.
