PIA launches pension awareness drive

The Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) has embarked on a countrywide sensitisation of members of various pension schemes on the sweeping pension reforms the government has undertaken. PIA Board Member Nicholas Kabaso says the workers will be sensitized on the legal changes that have been made to the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA), Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF) and the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (LASF). Speaking when he led a delegation from various pension schemes in paying a courtesy call on Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe in Kabwe, Mr Kabaso said the NAPSA has provided access to pre-retirement benefits under the revised legal pension provisions.

He said the sensitisation exercise will allow pension schemes to identify the needs of their respective members and identify gaps in the pension schemes to improve service delivery. President Hakainde Hichilema has signed into law the four landmark Pension Bills aimed at transforming Zambia’s pension system through enhanced benefits and improving access to retirement savings among the workers. And Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe has urged pension authorities to be proactive in sensitizing their members on the revised pension reforms to enable them prepare adequately for retirement.
