Bail for murder accused Keith Chetty has been opposed. His bail was opposed by the state due to the verification of an alternate address. State Prosecutor Philile Phoswa said the initial address was not verified, and the other was in close proximity to Northdale.
The state is opposing bail as the address provided is not verified, as the aunt who was living there has relocated and another person is living in the home. Chetty then provided an alternate address in Copesville through his Legal Aid attorney; however, it was not verified. “Copesville is in walking distance of Northdale,” argued Phoswa.
Another address was then provided in Howick, which was yet to be verified. Pietermaritzburg Magistrate Sandile Ngwenya remanded the matter to April 21. Chetty is accused of the murder of his ex-wife, Pietermaritzburg nurse Aleyka Shaik (34). Shaik was stabbed last month while fetching her daughter from the home of Chetty’s relative in Northdale.
