President Daniel Chapo on Sunday held a series of meetings in Washington, United States, with potential American investors, resulting in expressions of interest in increasing investment in key sectors of the Mozambican economy, including energy, tourism, infrastructure and international finance. The mobilisation of new investment marked the first day of the Head of State’s visit to the United States, where he will also participate in the Fragility Forum 2026, an event that brings together political leaders, business executives and representatives of international financial institutions. As part of his programme, Chapo met separately with Linda Thomas-Greenfield, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations; Garrett Gish, President and Chief Executive Officer of United States International Finance Partners (IFP); and Paul Sullivan, President of International Business at Acrow Bridge.

Following the meeting, Linda Thomas-Greenfield expressed her willingness to support efforts to attract investors to Mozambique, highlighting the opportunities presented by the President. “I hope that through this meeting and future meetings with the Government of Mozambique, we can identify opportunities to bring investors to the country who can respond to the opportunities and needs outlined by the President,” Thomas-Greenfield said. She added that, through APCO Worldwide and initiatives associated with the Africa Global Investment Summit, led by former African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina, she intends to collaborate with Mozambique in identifying investors interested in financing strategic projects.

According to Thomas-Greenfield, energy, infrastructure and security were among the key issues raised by Daniel Chapo during the discussions. Another sign of interest came from U.S. International Finance Partners, whose Chief Executive Officer said the company intends to travel to Mozambique in the coming weeks to assess concrete investment opportunities.
