Mozambique | African Parks and Government evaluate management of Bazaruto Park

The President of the Republic, Daniel Francisco Chapo, received this Tuesday in Maputo the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of African Parks, Peter Fearnhead, with whom he reviewed the progress and challenges of the joint management of the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park, in Inhambane province, reaffirming the commitment to consolidate that protected area as an international benchmark in marine conservation, sustainable tourism, economic development, and job creation. During the audience, held at the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, both parties reviewed the results achieved under the partnership between the Government of Mozambique and African Parks, while also identifying areas requiring improvements to increase the project’s impact and strengthen benefits for local communities. At the conclusion of the meeting, Peter Fearnhead explained that the gathering allowed for an evaluation of the work carried out in the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park and the definition of priorities to strengthen cooperation between the Government and the organization.

According to the executive, the goal is to ensure that Bazaruto establishes itself as a vital national asset for biodiversity conservation and tourism, while simultaneously contributing to the region’s economic growth and the creation of employment opportunities. The CEO of African Parks classified the audience as highly productive, considering that the commitment demonstrated by the Government will allow for overcoming existing challenges and reinforcing the success of the partnership. Peter Fearnhead also expressed confidence that the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park could become one of the world’s most significant references in marine conservation, thanks to the alignment between the Government of Mozambique and African Parks in implementing measures designed to continually improve the protected area’s management.

The executive further highlighted the commitment of the President of the Republic to strengthening cooperation between the two institutions, considering this dedication a decisive factor in elevating the project’s effectiveness and ensuring increasingly significant results. Founded in 2000, African Parks is a non-governmental conservation organization dedicated to nature preservation that establishes long-term partnerships with African governments to ensure the sustainable management of national parks and protected areas.
