At the age of 81, her passing marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in local governance, one defined by resilience, dedication, and an unyielding commitment to public service. She will be laid to rest this Saturday in her home village of Moshupa, where family, friends, colleagues, and admirers are expected to gather in large numbers to honour her life and legacy. Notably, MmaTshiping’s political journey was nothing short of remarkable.

Having served as a councillor for an impressive 30 years (spanning six terms), she holds the distinction of being one of the longest-serving local government representatives in the country’s history. Acting Agriculture Minister, Edwin Dikoloti, is right in saying opening an export-ready facility whilst Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is still spreading would risk getting the whole country blacklisted before a single carcass leaves the door.A ban like that would break the already stressed nation. So, the postponement, painful as it is, is the right thing to do.
