Boitekanelo’s high standards saluted by SA minister

The accolade was made by South African Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Mimmy Gondwe, at a ceremony in Gaborone on Thursday. She noted that the achievement represented more than a technical milestone, describing it as a reflection of institutional discipline, leadership and a culture committed to quality and excellence. “Boitekanelo College was born at a time of crisis, but through its commitment to innovation, compassion and human dignity, it evolved into a place of excellence,” Gondwe told the gathering.

During the ceremony, Gondwe had the opportunity to tour the campus with Botswana’s Higher Education Minister, Prince Maele. “Boitekanelo College was born at a time of crisis, but through its commitment to innovation, compassion and human dignity, it evolved into a place of excellence,” she said, adding that the College’s rise was remarkable and succeeded in building itself into a respected centre of learning. Gondwe also praised the institution for contributing towards the development of healthcare professionals whose skills directly impact communities and improve the quality of life across society.

She further highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in higher education, saying Southern African countries faced common challenges such as healthcare demands, youth unemployment and skills shortages. According to Gondwe, institutions such as Boitekanelo College therefore play a critical role in strengthening education systems and advancing regional integration through student mobility, research partnerships and shared centres of excellence. Acting Agriculture Minister, Edwin Dikoloti, is right in saying opening an export-ready facility whilst Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is still spreading would risk getting the whole country blacklisted before a single carcass leaves the door.A ban like that would break the already stressed nation.
