A MAN, who earlier this month gave a powerful testimony on the dangers of drug and substance abuse, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing and killing another man after a dispute over US$9. The incident happened on Workers Day at around 2pm in the Chinhoyi CBD. Tinotenda Nyamukute, 38, who is believed to have been a money changer in the city, died after he was allegedly stabbed by Nyasha Mutodi, 36.
The two had a misunderstanding over a debt of US$9. Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed the incident and the arrest of Mutodi, in connection with the murder. Mutodi recently served jail time after he was convicted of stealing money from his parents.
Last month, he was part of a group of prisoners who gave testimonies on the dangers of Drug and Substance abuse. Mutodi, who dropped out of his final year in university, last month told H-Metro he stole from his parents to finance his drug habit. Insp Kohwera said the tragic incident happened on Workers Day at around 2pm at TM North in the Chinhoyi CBD.

Nyamukute told Mutodi that he owed him US$9 but the latter denied the claims. “Mutodi charged towards the now deceased and pulled out a kitchen knife from his right side pocket and stabbed Nyamukute once on the right side of the stomach, below the ribs,” said Insp Kohwera. “Mutodi tried to escape but was caught by Artwell Wakatama and was handed over to the police at Chinhoyi Central.” Nyamukute was then rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital before he was transferred to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare. Insp Kohwera said on Sunday, Nyamukute’s brother, Jasphet Ndaramu, advised the police that he had died.
