FOUR suspected drug dealers were arrested in Mbare on Friday as police intensify their crackdown against drug lords. The Mbare community has vowed to expose drug dealers and their bases and to provide credible information that may lead to the arrest of more suspects. Police said two of the four suspects – Gamuchirai Chiwadza (23) of Jorburg Lines and Panashe Muriro (20) of Daniel Street, National – were arrested.
This led to the arrest of the other two, who have not yet been identified. The two were arrested before they could distribute boxes of drugs that police said had Bronclear, Benylin, Stilpane, and crystal meth. National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests, saying more details would be released later.
“Police arrested four suspects in connection with drugs and substance abuse in Mbare. “More details will be released in due course as investigations are continuing,” said Commissioner Nyathi.Recently, Officer Commanding Mbare District, Chief Superintendent Runwell Chipfurutse, declared a war against drug dealers. He directed his officers to invade all parts of Mbare and campaign against drugs and substance abuse.

Stephen Kagoti, the Crime Liaison Committee (CLC) chairperson for Stodart Police Station, said residents were tackling two major problems: bed bugs (“tsikidzi”) and drug dealers. “We want to commend the authorities for helping Mbare community fight two things – bed bugs and drug dealers,” said Kagoti. “Some families still rely on selling illicit drugs and end up protecting drug dealers.
“This is preventing our community from winning the war against drugs and substance abuse,” he said. Inspector Tichawona Matazhu led a march against drug and substance abuse from Mbare National to Mbare Flats on Thursday. The march was attended by teachers, learners from Nharira Primary School and various church leaders.
