I always read with interest the anniversary articles of business enterprises; how they went from humble beginnings in modest surroundings, etc., to being where they are today. Fifteen, 20 years, a quarter of a century. It never ceases to amaze me: How did they managed to survive in poor, pitiful Pietermaritzburg?
But how about 55 years? You must be joking, I hear you exclaim. There is more: Super Tyres has been at the same premises, 257 Commercial/Chief Albert Luthuli Road, with the same trademark colours, same courtesy and same competitive prices.
The only thing that has changed through the years is the staff, with the current ones probably being the grandchildren. I have to mention the following experience. A while back, I purchased two tyres but could not fit them.

The person tasked with the job of fitting them gave one look at my scorra-scorra, and politely informed me that he couldn’t fit the tyres as the CV joints were shot. Now, this guy was there to do his job (or so I thought), but the manner in which he went the extra mile caught me off guard. I’m sorry I never took his name, he deserves recognition.
But I am sure the manager, Greg Lawson, will pass on my gratitude to him. After about three months of challenges (CV joints were only the beginning), I finally arrived back at Super Tyres on June 5, to a smiling, warm welcome (and recognition), where I was further amazed by the jovial attitude of one Lindo.
