A baby owl that was unable to fly was rescued from a property in Metcalf Park, Tongaat, on Monday evening after a concerned resident alerted emergency responders. Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) said officers were dispatched at about 6.15 pm after receiving a call about the injured bird. When officers arrived, the homeowner directed them to the owl, which was lying next to a vehicle near the property’s driveway gate.
The owl appeared to have sustained injuries that prevented it from flying. Officers safely rescued the bird and transported it to the Rusa headquarters, where it received temporary care. Rusa added the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) was contacted, and arrangements were made for the owl to be collected for assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.
