Govt Releases K21.1 Billion in July

Government released21.1 billion Kwacha in Julytowards public services, food security, support for farmers and vulnerable households, free education and infrastructure development. The latest release brings total Treasury disbursements between January and July 2026 to152.05 billion Kwacha. Secretary to the TreasuryFELIX NKULUKUSAsays the releases are aimed at ensuring that public resources translate into tangible benefits for citizens.

Of the July allocation,6.3 billion Kwachawent towards transfers, subsidies and social benefits, while5.9 billion Kwachawas allocated to the public service wage bill and related obligations. A further4.3 billion Kwachawas used for domestic and external debt service and the dismantling of domestic arrears, while3.4 billion Kwachasupported government programmes and general operations. The remaining1.2 billion Kwachawas directed towards capital expenditure.

Food security remains a key priority, with theFood Reserve Agency receiving 2.7 billion Kwachain July. The Farmer Input Support Programme received660 million Kwacha, bringing total FISP releases for the year to6.4 billion Kwacha. Government also released564.2 million Kwachafor the Social Cash Transfer Programme, bringing cumulative releases for the programme this year to2.3 billion Kwacha.

In the education sector, schools received841.4 million Kwachain grants to support the implementation of the free education programme, bringing total grants released to schools this year to2.4 billion Kwacha. Grant-aided institutions, including hospitals and universities, received709.3 million Kwacha, while the Public Service Pension Fund was allocated507.3 million Kwachatowards pension obligations. On infrastructure,1.2 billion Kwachawas released for capital projects, including592 million Kwacha for roads, 243.3 million Kwacha for water infrastructure, 188.9 million Kwacha for the rehabilitation of National Assembly buildings, 101.3 million Kwacha for education infrastructure and 50 million Kwacha for mini-hospital projects.
