These findings marked a debate session held as part of the presentation of the preliminary results of FinScope MPME 2025, conducted by FSDMoç, and the proposal of the National Agropoles Platform, presented by Gapi, during the European Union-Mozambique summit, taking place in Maputo until June 10th. FinScope data reveals that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) continue to face significant difficulties in accessing credit, energy, markets and financial services suited to their needs. Despite the growth of female entrepreneurship and the expansion of digital financial services, informality and financing limitations continue to restrict the potential of MSMEs, especially in rural areas.
In response to these challenges, Gapi presented the Commercial Agro-hubs model, an integrated approach that combines anchor companies, productive and logistical infrastructure, financial services, technical assistance, digitalization, and incubation programs for young entrepreneurs. During the debate, participants highlighted the importance of innovative financing instruments, risk mitigation mechanisms, digitalization, renewable energies, logistics, and agro-processing to make agriculture a more competitive and attractive sector for investors. More than just an agricultural project, Agropolos represent a strategic vision for the economic transformation of rural areas, placing youth, women, and MSMEs at the center of the country’s productive development.
