‘Defending the gains’ : ZLGCA throws weight behind Amendment Bill NO. 3

There is no room for instability or policy reversals when we are this close to realising an empowered upper-middle-income society,” said Mrs Mabhena.“Amendment Bill No. 3 is not about individuals, it is about ensuring that the governance architecture is stable enough to carry the aspirations of every Zimbabwean, particularly the young women who are the backbone of this nation.”Mabhena’s political advocacy is underpinned by a massive empowerment drive targeting 10,000 young women across all ten provinces this year with Road Traffic Safety and provisional licence training.The initiative, which began in Matabeleland North and Masvingo Provinces, aims to equip beneficiaries with driving skills that open doors to employment and entrepreneurship.Currently over 600 young women have undergone training under the initiative.“Many jobs in Zimbabwe require a licensed driver as a minimum requirement.

Too many girls miss these opportunities simply because they lack a licence,” Mrs Mabhena explained.The organisation has noted that on average, girls require two provisional licences before securing their full driver’s licence due to lack of funds, motivation and mentorship.To address this, ZLGCA will establish drivers’ training clubs that walk with beneficiaries through the entire process.Beyond driving training, the group is rolling out practical livelihoods programmes in agriculture, mining, and ICTs, alongside life skills training in financial literacy, emotional intelligence, and business skills.“Idleness and poverty are the two key influences driving girls into substance abuse and early marriages. “We are leaving no one and no place behind.
