We need to improve access to markets and reduce post-harvest losses,” she said. “We need to add value to what we produce. Above all, we must ensure that the benefits of economic growth reach our communities,” she said.

The Prime Minister noted that Mozambique has, in recent years, been repeatedly affected by cyclones, prolonged droughts, floods, tropical storms and other extreme weather events. “These events undermine agricultural production, destroy infrastructure and degrade natural resources, while weakening the livelihoods of thousands of Mozambican families,” she said. Levi said the Sustainable Development Fund must establish itself as a key instrument for the country’s economic transformation.

“The FNDS must support practical solutions. It must create the conditions for development to be inclusive, resilient and sustainable. Its programmes must reach the people, especially those living in rural areas who face the greatest challenges,” she said.

She also stressed that the institution should play a leading role in creating opportunities for women and young people. “We want thousands of Mozambicans to find professional fulfilment without having to leave their communities.
