Chamisa accused of taking US$5m bribe

HARARE- Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader cum preacher, Nelson Chamisa has come under fresh scrutiny following allegations that he was bribed with US$5 million to quit politics by controversial Zanu PF central committee member Kudakwashe Tagwirei. An intelligence report leaked by an X account run by one Retired Lieutenant General, Winston Sigauke Mapuranga on Sunday claimed that Tagwirei paid Chamisa off to so that he does not take a leading role in opposing the Constitutional Amendment Bill No.3 of 2026 (CAB3). Mupuranga claimed that the 2018 and 2023 presidential candidate took the money to a named Harare law firm for safe keeping and has already withdrawn US$4 million.

“Timba mentioned that Chamisa accepted US$5 million from ZANU PF Central Committee member Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirel,” the report claimed. The proposed amendments will also whittle down the power of the military, allow traditional leaders to dabble in politics and collapse the Zimbabwe Gender Commission, among other changes.
