Opposition figureBrian Mundubelahas questioned whether the reported acts of violence during the campaign period reflect the peace that PresidentHakainde Hichilemahas consistently advocated for. In a statement, Mr. Mundubela said Zambians should begin to look beyond political rhetoric and assess political parties based on their actions, emphasizing that violence has no place in a democratic society.
The statement follows an alleged incident inKitwe on the Copperbelt, where Mr. Mundubela and other opposition members were reportedly attacked while conducting campaign activities. He alleged that their members were assaulted, while campaign vehicles were vandalized and stones were thrown during the incident.
He further appealed for political players to uphold peace and ensure that citizens can participate in the electoral process without fear or intimidation. The Copperbelt police know that this week is planned for Mundubile’s campaigns there. They busy as police and cadres fomenting violence in the name of maintaining peace. Who needs the police in such instances?
