The Zambia Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert warning of strong winds and a drop in temperatures across most parts of the country from 11th to 15th August 2026. In the advisory released on August 10, 2026, the Department said a high-pressure system over the Indian Ocean is driving strong, moist and cool airflow into Zambia. According to the alert, the system is expected to remain active throughout the forecast period, resulting in windy conditions nationwide.
A reduction in temperature is specifically expected over Western, Lusaka, Central, Southern, Eastern and Muchinga provinces. The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment said the public should prepare for cooler nights and early mornings during the validity period. Similary, the Zambia Meteorological Department urged citizens to take precautionary measures by dressing warmly, especially during the cooler night and early morning hours.
“Individuals with respiratory conditions, the elderly and children are encouraged to limit exposure to dust and use appropriate protective measures where necessary,” it stated. The department advised parents and guardians to closely supervise children to prevent burn injuries from open fires, braziers and other heating sources commonly used during cold weather. It also cautioned users of water transport to exercise extreme caution due to hazardous windy conditions on water bodies.
