ZAF, NAPSA sign deal to execute bulk water supply project, target Ibex Hill, Twin Palm residents

Under the project, ZAF and NAPSA would provide the funding while the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company would build and operate the pipeline in a period of 18 months.

Speaking after witnessing the signing ceremony in Lusaka on Monday, Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary, Maambo Haamaundu, said the project aligned with government’s broader developmental agenda that every citizen has access to essential services. Haamaundu said the project demonstrated that the government was determined to improve people’s lives in infrastructure, housing, water supply and sanitation. He said when communities had access to clean water, diseases reduced, households became productive and communities got empowered.

Haamaundu noted that collaboration among government departments helped in speeding up development. “This infrastructure will serve generations to come. The pipeline will continue to deliver water to thousands of people in the years to come,” he said.

Zambia Air Force Commander Lt Gen Oscar Nyoni thanked President Hakainde Hichilema and government for the continued support to the Air Force. Nyoni said government support had made ZAF to have all the necessary infrastructure to take care of its personnel. “This project is of profound significance to our operations.

It will boost morale among personnel and improve our operation readiness,” Nyoni said. Meanwhile, National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) Acting Director General, Joshua Malipenga, said the Bulk Water Supply Project will benefit Queensland Park, ZAF Twin Palm, Da Tong and other areas in Twin Palm and Ibex Hill areas of Lusaka. Malipenga said the investment by NAPSA would provide sustainable development infrastructure, emphasizing that reliable water supply was critical to the development of the country. Meanwhile, Lusaka Water and Sanitation Company Managing Director, Jilly Chiyombwe, said his company will deliver the project with quality, professionalism and transparency.
