The R617 remains closed between Swartberg and Underberg as heavy snowfall continues to affect parts of KwaZulu-Natal. KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma has urged motorists travelling to or from Kokstad not to approach the R617, warning that the cut-off low-pressure system has triggered heavy snowfall in the area. According to the latest update from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI): Duma has reiterated that snow chasers are prohibited and motorists are urged to delay their journeys where possible.

The latest warning comes as heavy snowfall continues to blanket parts of the province, with authorities monitoring road conditions and responding to weather-related incidents. Motorists who have no choice but to travel are urged to drive cautiously, follow instructions from traffic officials and allow additional time for their journeys.
