From Kings Park to KwaMashu: Sharks take new brand to fresh communities

It was a fitting way to round off a week in which the Sharks unveiled a bold new identity — and it won’t be the last time the Currie Cup team takes the game to new communities around the province.

The match was played before an enthusiastic crowd, with admission free at the gates and the stadium alive with singing supporters and the smoke of braais drifting across the stands. There was plenty for the home fans to celebrate, too, as the Sharks overcame Boland 19-12 to climb the Currie Cup log. The KwaMashu fixture is part of the Sharks’ commitment to taking rugby beyond their traditional home at Kings Park and making the team accessible to new communities across KwaZulu-Natal. That community focus came at the end of a momentous week for the organisation, which unveiled an ambitious rebranding on Thursday.
