The Eastern Cape is expected to experience disruptive snowfall from Sunday into Tuesday, with an Orange Level 6 warning issued for parts of the province. Snowfall of 25cm to 35cm is expected in places across Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, Chris Hani District Municipality, Senqu, Elundini and Matatiele local municipalities. The snowfall could result in danger to life, loss of livestock and crops, isolated communities being cut off, service disruptions and dangerous driving conditions.
A separate Level 2 snow warning is also in effect from 5pm on Sunday until 11.59pm on Monday, covering parts of the southwestern and northern interior. Between 5cm and 15cm of snow is expected in these areas, potentially reaching 20cm in places. The snow may lead to icy roads, traffic disruptions and minor accidents. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
