Eleven people have been shot and killed in three separate incidents in Langa, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha. The Western Cape Serious Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the shootings, which occurred between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning. In Khayelitsha, three men aged 25, 31 and 35 were shot dead in the TR Section of Lingelethu West at about 10.50pm on Saturday.
In Langa, four men and a woman were shot and killed on Winnie Mandela Street in Phase 3, KwaLanga, at about 10.45pm. Another shooting occurred at the Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu at about 4.10am on Sunday. Two men and a woman were killed, while two other victims sustained gunshot wounds.
Western Cape police have bolstered deployments in the affected areas and other identified hotspots. The motives for the shootings remain unknown and are being investigated.
