President Hichilema Pledges action on Chienge development…

President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing key development challenges facing the people in Chienge district. Mr Hichilema said government remains determined to improving the road infrastructure, education, healthcare and agriculture in the district as part of efforts to improve the livelihoods of local communities. Speaking when he graced the 2026 Builile Traditional Ceremony of the Bwile people in Chienge, where he was represented by Vice President Mutale Nalumango, President Hichilema stressed that government recognises the importance of the Nchelenge-Chienge Road as a catalyst for economic growth, trade and social integration in the district.

The Head of state noted that once upgraded to bituminous standard the road will unlock the agricultural, trading and fishing potential of Chienge while also facilitating trade with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ” Construction works to tar the road have already commenced and are progressing well for this road which is very vital for the development of Chienge,” Mrs Nalumango said. Mr Hichilema also said government is assessing school infrastructure in the district, including Ponde, Lunchinda and Lambwe Chomba Day Secondary Schools, with a view to progressively improving facilities and expanding boarding access for learners.

Meanwhile, the head of state disclosed that the Ministry of Health has been directed to prioritise the equipment of mortuary facilities at Lambwe Chomba and Twaileta Mini-Hospitals. The President further urged the people of Chienge to maintain peace and unity and to participate in the August 13, 2026 general elections by exercising their constitutional right to vote. He stressed that development can only be achieved through collective effort, patriotism and peace.
