Watch: Police search for missing Alex van Heerden after alleged Northcliff abduction

Police and private security forces have launched a massive search operation following the kidnapping of 26-year-old Alex van Heerden in Johannesburg, an incident captured on video footage. According to Mike Bolhuis’ Specialised Security Services (SSS),Van Heerden was snatchedshortly after arriving at her Northcliff home at 18:57 last night (5 August), having taken an Uber from News Café in Rosebank. Video footage shared by Andre Snyman of eBlockwatch shows two armed men confronting Van Heerden moments after she exits the vehicle.

The assailants rob the e-hailing driver of his mobile phone before forcing Van Heerden into a waiting vehicle and speeding off. SSS said the Uber driver went directly to the nearest police station to report the crime. A case has been registered with the Fairland Police Station and remains under active investigation.

SSS confirmed they are working closely with law enforcement to track down the victim. Anyone with information is urged to contact SSS investigators Jacques Visser on 067 161 2570 or Ruan Visser on 067 401 1075. Gauteng police had not responded to media enquiries at the time of publication.
