The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has with immediate effect lifted the suspension of campaign activities of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) in Kaputa Constituency of Kaputa District. The lifting of the suspension reportedly follows confirmation from the Police that the political situation in Kaputa Constituency had normalised, according to ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Brown Kasaro. In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Kasaro commended the Police, political party leaders, stakeholders and members of the public for their role in restoring peace and order in the constituency.
Kasaro also reminded all participating political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and to strictly adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct and all other applicable electoral laws. He further stated that the Commission would continue to closely monitor campaign activities across the country and would not hesitate to enforce its statutory powers under the Electoral Process Act and the Electoral Code of Conduct. “This will be done against any political party or candidate found engaging in acts of violence or other conduct that undermines the integrity of the electoral process,” Kasaro said.
