The Republic of Benin has reiterated on Tuesday 21 July 2026 its firm and steadfast position in support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.The Republic of Benin has also reaffirmed its support for the Autonomy Plan initiative presented by the Kingdom of Morocco as the only credible and realistic solution to resolving this dispute. This position was expressed in the joint Communiqué issued at the close of the 7th session of Morocco-Benin Joint cooperation commission, held in Cotonou and co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs with the responsibility of the Integration of People of African Descent Corinne Amori Brunet.

On this occasion, the Beninese minister further welcomed the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797, which enshrines the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the basis for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable resolution of this dispute. Amori Brunet then stated she will soon be on a mission to the city of Dakhla, particularly to examine the economic and social growth in the region and to explore opportunities for establishing partnerships there.The two sides also agreed to hold the next session of the Joint cooperation commission in Dakhla.
